Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information Murder Mystery Game collects, why, and how long we keep it. Land & Cloud Limited is the controller of this information. Contact: account@murdermysterygame.co.uk.

We collect as little as we can. Only the person who buys stories has an account. Players never register.

If you buy and host (account holders)

  • Your email address, to log you in with one-time links, send receipts and run your account. Lawful basis: performing our contract with you.
  • Your purchases (what you bought, when, what you paid, the Revolut payment reference). We keep order records for 6 years after the end of the tax year, because the law requires it. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
  • Games and invites you create (story, date, room code), so you can run them.
  • New-story emails. If you own a pack we'll email you when a new story is added to it. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can switch them off in My Stories. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (telling customers about content they've already paid for).

We never see your card details: payments are processed by Revolut under their own privacy policy.

If you play or reply to an invite (guests)

  • The name you enter and whether you chose drinker or non-drinker (only asked in games where drinks are poured).
  • What happens in the game: your role and character, votes, points, and any chat messages or ghost whispers you write.
  • Invite replies: the name you entered and your drinker choice.

Lawful basis: legitimate interests (running the game you've chosen to join). Game data is deleted 7 days after the game. Invite replies are deleted 7 days after the date of the event, or 60 days after the invite was made if it has no date. Please don't use your full name if you'd rather not.

Security records

To stop abuse (for example bots requesting login links or spamming invites), we briefly record IP addresses against counts of requests. These records are deleted within a day. Our web server also keeps standard access logs for security, which are rotated automatically.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your data or use advertising or tracking services. It is shared only with the services that run the site:

  • our hosting provider (servers in the UK);
  • Revolut, to take payments;
  • our email delivery service, to send login links, receipts and new-story emails.

We may disclose information if the law requires it.

We use only the cookies needed to make the site work. See the cookie notice.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it (we may need to keep order records for tax), object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict it. Email account@murdermysterygame.co.uk. We'll reply within a month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk.
